Because these dreads are factory made synthetic dreads and are not backcombed before they are sealed, you may find that you will need to complete some maintenence on them to ensure they remain properly sealed. This is completely normal with factory made synthetic dreads.
To reseal synthetic dreads you can use several methods:
Hair Straightener / Damp Towel method:
You will need heat protective gloves, a small towel, a spray bottle full of water and a hair straightening iron.
Twist the dread in its natural direction and then cover with the towel. Spray a reasonable amount of water on to the towel (until damp) whilst it is over the area of the dread which you wish to seal. Next, apply heat from the hair straightener over the damp area of the towel and around the dread. You will notice that steam will appear. Hold lightly for a few seconds and then remove the towel. Your dread should have sealed. If not, repeat. Complete this process all over the dread until every part is resealed and don't forget to keep spraying the water on to the towel or the dread will not seal.
Boiling Water method:
You will need heat protective gloves, a pan of boiling water.
Twist the dread in its natural direction and hold at both ends. Dip the dread in to a pan of boiling water for several seconds or more. Remove it, but don't let go of the dread. You can peg each end to stop it from unravelling if required. Leave to cool. Your dread should now be resealed. If not, repeat.
Steamer/Steam gun method:
You will need heat protective gloves, a high powered steam gun (ideally over 2000w)
Twist the dread in its natural direction and hold at both ends. Using the steamer, apply steam all over the area of the dread which you wish to seal for several seconds. Hold and allow to cool. Your dread should be reselaed. If not, repeat.
If you are new to resealing dreads, you will need to practice, practice, practice but it will be worth it as resealing your dreads will promote longevity in your dreads meaning you can wear and enjoy them for longer! :o)
